Choosing the Right Grain Size for Your Sandblasting Slag

Choosing the right grain size for your sandblasting slag depends largely on the nozzle used for sandblasting. During the sandblasting process, approximately 6 grains of slag are accelerated through the nozzle simultaneously. Therefore, the diameter of the slag grains should be a maximum of 1/6 of the nozzle diameter.

Note the ratio of nozzle opening to grain size: With a 3 mm nozzle, the grain size of the slag should not exceed 0.5 mm, for example. This way, the slag can flow smoothly through the nozzle and achieve the desired cleaning results.

By selecting the right grain size for your nozzle, you achieve the desired surface quality and efficiency when working with sandblasting slag. At the same time, you minimise the risk of blockages or uneven processing.

Tip: Do not change the grain size of your blasting media arbitrarily. Always pay attention to compatibility with your nozzle. This way you work efficiently and avoid problems.
